So it seems it’s the second post that has proven the hardest in my case! I’m the worlds biggest procrastinator, always have been.
It’s weird actually because with certain things I’m a real ‘doer’. I do like clearing the dishes as soon as I’ve eaten, I do like to take the dog for a walk as soon as I’m home, I do like to wear new clothes as soon as I’ve bought them. On the other hand, I don’t like to get straight out of bed in the mornings, I put things off till they really need to be done and if you ever have dinner with me, I’m usually the last to decide what I want to order.
Work is a good example of this ‘doing’ I speak of. I’ve always been a grafter. I had my first job at 13 in my uncle’s dry cleaners (such a Turkish stereotype I know) but I used to make £25 of a Saturday, which was quite a lot of money back then, especially considering I was 13 and had no expenses other than 10p bus fare and sweets! I’ve since spent the rest of my working life doing an average of 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.
When I say work though, I’m only talking about jobs, because when it came to college or uni work, that was always last minute. My dissertation for example, all 13,000 words, were written in the five days prior to the deadline, in a haze of all-nighters and pro-plus. All the rage those days!
This is the one habit I haven’t seemed to grow out of.
The thing is, I’m totally aware that I do it, any type of non-work related deadline looming, I’ll be thinking about it but I won’t actually get it done until I really really have to. If you’re popping round to see me, chances are I’ve spent the last 10 minutes fixing the house up, that kind of thing.
Maybe it’s the pressure I like? Maybe not? Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve succeeded leaving things to the last minute before so I keep doing the same thing over and over? I don’t really know.
So far, this has been my downfall when it comes to blogging. Maybe it isn’t for me? Maybe I just need to develop the habit, get into the swing of things?
Hmmm, we’ll see, I’m just going to play it by ear and in the meantime be hoping I’m not the only person that does this?
